Recently, drag queens held a read-aloud despite protestors; an author supplied treats for her guests; authors discussed queer literature for a Pride event; and a picture book creator signed copies of her new book at an event.

Pride Wins

On June 3, the Children’s Book Cellar in Waterville, Maine, kicked off its Pride Month celebrations with a Drag Queen Story Hour with Central Maine Pride. Despite protestors showing up at the bookstore, readers enjoyed an evening with drag queen reader Jen D’aBenda (l.) and bookstore owner Ellen Richmond.

Just One Little Treat

Kat Yeh made an appearance at Books of Wonder in New York City on June 7 to speak about her book, Just One Little Light (Balzer + Bray), illustrated by Isabelle Arsenault. Attendees were welcomed with sweet treats that Yeh provided for the event.

Pride Is Magic

Levine Querido authors Sarah Moon (l.) and Federico Erebia spoke about their respective books, Middletown and Pedro & Daniel, and the future of queer young adult literature as part of a YA panel at the Pride Fest event series held at Books Are Magic in Brooklyn Heights on June 10.

A Hopeful Launch

On June 4, the Barnes & Noble at Palisades Center in West Nyack, N.Y., welcomed Diana Murray for a launch event for her picture book Someday, Maybe (Holt), illustrated by Jessica Gibson, where she signed copies of her book. The picture book centers children imagining all the possibilities for their futures.
