Recently, authors celebrated the release of a new book; had a special guest at their launch party; and held a bilingual storytime.

Middle Grade Magic

On January 10, Tom Llewellyn visited King’s Books in Tacoma, Wash., for the launch of his new middle grade fantasy, The Five Impossible Tasks of Eden Smith (Holiday House). The book follows Eden, who must rescue her grandfather from a magical society of metalworkers by completing five daunting challenges. Llewellyn gave a reading, held a q&a, and signed copies of his book for readers.

A Surprise Guest

Earlier this month, Claire Tattersfield (l.) stopped by her hometown bookstore, Parnassus Books in Nashville, Tenn., to share her debut picture book Cupig (Flamingo). In the book, Cupig, a pig whose job is to spread love, accidentally breaks up perfect couples and tries to help them fall in love again. Parnassus owner Ann Patchett (r.) made an appearance at the event in support of Tattersfield.

On January 20, Underdog Bookstore in Monrovia, Calif., welcomed Joe Cepeda for a bilingual storytime of his new I Like to Read book, I Help (Holiday House), also available in Spanish as Auydo. Cepeda also gave a live drawing demonstration for the audience. In the early reader book, a boy finds a canteen and feels inspired to help as many people as he can.
