Recently an author headed off on tour, students welcomed an author for a visit, children’s creators collaborated on a newsletter, turtles were the star of a book event, an author signed a large amount of stock for students, and a book festival took place.
A ‘Remarkable’ Tour
On September 16, Angie Thomas kicked off her book tour for her new middle grade novel Nic Blake and the Remarkables, The Book of Anansi (Clarion) dropping by Words Bookstore in Maplewood, N.J., to sign copies of the new book. The sequel to Nic Blake and the Remarkables: The Manifestor Prophecy follows the titular tween as she navigates honing her skills at a magical school, while an old foe returns. A Warm Welcome
Students at Garnet Valley Elementary in Glen Mill, Pa., were eager to greet author Katherine Applegate during her school visit on September 15. During the visit, sponsored by Children’s Book World in Haverford, Applegate presented her newest book, Pocket Bear (Feiwel and Friends), about a stuffed bear who joins a family full of toys and hopes to help them all with their troubles. Applegate spoke with 450 third and fourth graders about her book and answered questions.

In the newsletter, the cofounders plan to share their thoughts on craft, publishing, and their creative processes. A Tortoise Meet and Greet
Fact & Fiction bookstore in Missoula, Mont., gave collaborators Sy Montgomery (r.) and Matt Patterson (c.) a warm welcome on September 10 for the launch of their new picture book, The True and Lucky Life of a Turtle (Clarion). The picture book follows the life of a lucky turtle who must rely on his friends when he faces his first bout of trouble. Nonprofit Animal Wonders, which offers educational outreach programs, brought red-footed tortoises Bubbles, Tubby, and Yuka to meet readers at the event.
Signed Copies for All
Chris Grabenstein made a visit to Books & Books in Coral Gables, Fla., on September 16 to celebrate the publication of Moldylocks and the Three Bears, the fourth installment in his Stinky’s Stories series (HarperCollins). The book, cowritten with J.J. Grabenstein and illustrated by Alex Patrick, invites readers to imagine what happened after Goldilocks escaped the three bears. Grabenstein signed more than 800 books from the series for students at three local schools through Books & Books Literary Foundation’s Meet an Author, Build a Library program.
Make Some Noise, Minnesota!
The Minnesota Children’s Book Festival took place on September 13 in Red Wing, bringing together a slate of children’s authors to meet young readers and enjoy activities. Chris Monroe (l.) and Molly Beth Griffin gave presentations and signed copies of their books for readers.
