Recently the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature was joined onstage by an actor, an author made a serendipitous visit to the home of a famous writer, and an author and illustrator came together to share their biography of a music icon.


Talking Pictures

On December 5, National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature Mac Barnett (l.) and children’s literacy advocate and actor Jennifer Garner (r.) came together at 92NY in New York City for an event titled “Consider the Picture Book.” Together, the duo discussed the impact and importance of picture books.


Generations of Little Women

Debut author Katie Bernet celebrated the publication of her YA novel, Beth Is Dead (S&S/Barley), with a visit to Louisa May Alcott’s Orchard House in Concord, Mass on January 6. The mystery novel, inspired by Alcott’s classic Little Women, reimagines the March sisters as teens investigating the murder of their sister Beth. Purple Rain

On January 6, author Nikki Shannon Smith (r.) and illustrator Don Tate (l.) made an appearance at Avid Reader Bookstore in Davis, Calif., to celebrate the release of Prince: A Little Golden Book Biography (Golden Books). The event had a “Purple Party” theme with attendees encouraged to wear the artist’s signature color. Here, Tate and Smith discuss the musician’s influence during their presentation.
