Recently an author discussed her latest middle grade novel in New York City, a cartoonist celebrated her picture debut with a school visit, and authors talked baseball during a stock signing.

Over the Moon

On January 12, Newbery Honor author Chanel Miller (l.) appeared at the Strand Bookstore in New York City to celebrate the launch of her new middle grade novel, The Moon Without Stars (Philomel). Miller appeared in conversation with the New Yorker's Jia Tolentino (r.), and took questions from the audience about honing her point of view in fiction and nonfiction alike. Throughout the event, guests had the chance to jot down middle school memories and "feels" on Post-it notes for a locker display, and tried their hand at creating zines like main character Luna.

Gather Round

Cartoonist Grace Farris visited students at Bryker Woods Elementary in Austin on January 8 to share her debut picture book More Than a Million (Bloomsbury). In the book, a parent showcases their appreciation for their child by listing the many things that couldn’t compare to their love. Here, Farris gives a reading to students in the school library.

A Home Run of a Visit

Author David A. Kelly stopped by Books & Books in Key West, Fla., on January 6 to sign stock of his newest Ballpark Mysteries book, The Bobblehead Bunt (Random House). The middle grade novel follows Mike and Kate as they race to uncover the mystery behind a switched out bobblehead before the start of an important game. Kelly met author and store co-founder Judy Blume, a fellow baseball fan, while there.
