The United States Board on Books for Young People has revealed its 2026 Outstanding International Books list, featuring 41 titles for children and young adults published in 2025 and originating from 24 countries. The list was announced on January 18 at the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators winter conference in New York City.
Launched in 2006, the list spotlights noteworthy titles for young readers by international creators, with “stories that foster empathy, bridge cultures, and build connections.” This year’s selection committee, chaired by 2026–2027 USBBY president Susan Polos, included Junko Sakoi (assistant chair), Jackie Garcia-Morales, Robin Gibson, Taraneh Matloob Haghanikar, Suzii Parsons, Emily Pendergrass, Laura Simeon, and Riky Stock.
Polos said in a statement, “The Outstanding International Books list is a unique resource offering exceptional books that will expose young readers to perspectives and experiences that expand and enrich their world views.”
