OverDrive has acquired the Australian company Booki.sh, which sells and distributes e-books through its cloud-based distribution platform. The three founders of Booki.sh--Joseph Pearson, Virginia Murdoch and Peter Haasz--will remain in Melbourne and continue to operate the company.

The Booki.sh cloud platform allows reader to download e-books without installing any software. This, OverDrive CEO and president Steve Potash said, was something very attractive for his company. 'Their innovative technologies streamline the access and convenience of eBooks, which will help shape how millions of readers and students enjoy eBooks from OverDrive’s network of thousands of libraries, schools and booksellers in over 20 countries."

In an announcement about the purchase, OverDrive said it will be expanding the Booki.sh distribution and bookstore platforms, while also integrating Booki.sh's HTML5 and EPUB reading technologies into OverDrive services.
