Michael Murphy, a former publishing executive and literary agent, died on October 19 after a short illness. He was 63.

Murphy served as a v-p at Random House and Putnam, publisher at William Morrow, and sales director at F&W Publications before founding his own literary agency, Max & Co., in 2003. Since 2009, he has written multiple books on New Orleans for W.W. Norton, including Eat Dat, Fear Dat, Hear Dat, and the forthcoming All Dat.

Murphy is survived by his wife, Marnie Carmichael; his daughter, Ella; his son, Austin Murphy-Park; daughter-in-law Jacy; and granddaughter Cadence. A memorial will be held at a later date, and a memorial blog can be found here.
