Little, Brown has acquired a new novel from Tom Wolfe. Back to Blood, the author's first work of fiction since his 2004 book, I Am Charlotte Simmons, published by Wolfe's longtime house FSG, will be set in Miami and deal with recurring themes for the author such as class and race.

The Hachette division acquired North American rights to the work from agent Lynn Nesbit of Janklow & Nesbit, and the book, set for a 2009 publication, will be edited by senior editor Pat Strachan (who worked with Wolfe on numerous books at FSG, including Bonfire of the Vanities and The Right Stuff).

Speaking to the acquisition, Little, Brown publisher Michael Pietsch called Wolfe the kind of author "that people entering book publishing dream of [working with]."
