Borders continues to expand its offerings through strategic partnerships both in-store and online. Today it announced a partnership with Chegg.com, which will serve as the sole provider of textbook rentals through Borders.com. The arrangement, part of the new Borders Textbook Marketplace, complements the company’s current offering of 1.4 million new and used textbooks.

“As a leader in our industry, we are committed to offering the best books and educational materials to our customers, and we’re pleased to partner with an organization that shares that common vision,” said Mike Edwards, CEO of Borders, Inc. “Chegg’s expertise in the market is an important asset to our brand and we are excited to expand the Borders brand by offering textbook rentals.”

In other news, following its partnership with Build-A-Bear Workshop to introduce its Craftshop product line, Borders is continuing to expand the children’s product assortment in its retail stores. It recently created an American Girl destination in more than 500 superstores for the popular brand’s books and craft products. Borders is also adding more titles from Dr. Seuss and Sesame Street, as well as educational games, puzzles, and stuffed toys from both brands. In addition, the stores will carry Harry Potter and Star Wars-themed LEGO sets; puzzles and role-playing games from Melissa & Doug; and science activity kits from Scientific Explorer and SmartLab.
