After the U.S. bankruptcy court gave Barnes & Noble’s final approval for its purchase of Borders.com and Borders’s intellectual property last week, the retailer made quick work of notifying its former rival’s customers the reasons why they were interested in the assets, along with a Web address where they could opt out of having their information transferred: www.bn.com/borders.

In the opt-out e-letter B&N CEO William Lynch wrote: “Our intent in buying the Borders customer list is simply to try and earn your business. The majority of our stores are within close proximity to former Borders store locations, and for those that aren't, we offer our award- winning NOOK™ digital reading devices that provide a bookstore in your pocket. We are readers like you, and hope that through our stores, NOOK devices, and our bn.com online bookstore we can win your trust and provide you with a place to read and shop.”

Those seeking more information on the Borders.com Web site, were greeted with a thank you for shopping the site and a note that orders will be fulfilled by Barnes & Noble.com. According to the site’s faq’s list, the site will be up until October 14.
