Fireside Bookstore, which opened in Olympia, Wash. 32 years ago, could close as early as the end of this month. “We still have a devoted clientele,” says owner Jane Laclergue, who turns 65 this year and wants to retire. “I have a few people who want to talk to me about buying the store. A buyer might come out of the woodworks.” She spoke with one potential buyer yesterday evening, but if that doesn’t work out and a viable buyer doesn’t step forward by her self-imposed deadline of July 31, Laclergue says that she will close the store. She has already begun an inventory clearance sale. Unlike Queen Anne Books in nearby Seattle, which changed hands in April, Laclergue says that she is not willing to keep the store on the market for a couple years.
