A constant complaint of booksellers is the short time span they have to pay for, or return, books. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt has moved to address that concern by extending its retail payment terms (exclusive of Distribution Centers) from net 30 days from date of invoice to net 90 days from date of invoice. The new terms begin June 1.

“Recognizing that books must stay on shelves to allow for store promotions and discovery by readers, HMH is supporting this effort with enhanced payment terms for our retail bookselling partners,” notes Laurie Brown, senior v-p, sales and marketing at HMH.
