No Trouble in Paradise

The Paradise Problem by Christina Lauren lands at #7 on our hardcover fiction list. “A marriage of convenience leads to unexpected romance in the swoony latest from bestsellers Christina Hobbs [l.] and Lauren Billings, writing as Lauren,” according to our review. In 2021, Gallery moved the longtime collaborators, who had been writing trade paper originals, into hardcover.

Song of Myself

Rebel Girl by Kathleen Hanna, lead singer of Bikini Kill and Le Tigre, is #7 on our hardcover nonfiction list. “It’s a raw and revealing portrait of a vital figure in the feminist punk scene,” per our review, and “a no-holds-barred account of her turbulent life.” Hanna’s debut is one of two books by 1990s musicians to land on our list: Down with the System by System of a Down lead singer Serj Tankian sits one notch below. This “forthright debut recounts his intertwined evolutions as an activist and a musician,” according to our review. “Heavy metal fans will welcome this expansive look at one of the genre’s key figures.”

July’s Heating Up

All Fours, Miranda July’s “hilarious, sexy, and wonderfully weird latest,” according to our starred review, is #10 on our hardcover fiction list. The filmmaker made her fiction debut with 2007’s No One Belongs Here More Than You; All Fours is her second novel after 2015’s The First Bad Man.

The Situation Room
George Stephanopoulos
#3 Hardcover Nonfiction, #8 overall
“Stephanopoulos takes readers behind the scenes of a legendary White House wrestler location in this sprightly history,” per our review. The ABC News host “walks readers through its evolution and use during multiple consequential moments in American history,” such as on 9/11, when “the personnel assigned there refused orders to leave their posts.”

A Crane Among Wolves

#19 Children's Fiction
In what our review called “searing historical fiction,” Hwang Iseul, a teen in 16th-century Korea, seeks to rescue her sister from tyrannical King Yeonsan and becomes entangled with the king’s younger half brother, Prince Daehyun.
