It should come as no surprise that award-winning crime novelist Denise Mina was selected by DC to adapt Stieg Larsson’s blockbuster The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo as a graphic novel, even though when she first received a call from DC (to write a Hellblazer arc), it was a complete shock.

An estimated 116,000 people flooded the Javits Center in New York City this past weekend for New York Comic Con, the second largest show of its kind in North America. Sunday was Kids' Day at the show, but there was plenty for children to see and do during all four days of the convention, with publishers bringing in authors and artists including Sir Terry Pratchett, Jarrett J. In a big weekend for the family of the late Harvey Pekar, acclaimed autobiographical comics writer and favorite son of the city of Cleveland, the city's public library erected a statue in his honor and also issued limited edition library cards with his likeness.

New York Comic Con is done but not forgotten. We spent the weekend capturing images of many of the creators and publishers as well as the tens of thousands of fans that jammed the Jacob Javits Center over the weekend.
New York Comic Con Draws 116,000 Fans

Pop culture fans jammed the aisles of the Javits Center for all four days of the New York Comic Con, held this past weekend. Attendance was estimated as 116,000 by show runner and ReedPop v-p Lance Fensterman, making it the second largest comics and pop culture show in North America.

In the town of Calico, the townspeople believe you can see the "Soul Fires" of the dead in the night sky. When young Fiona Gan and her father move to the town, she discovers the depths of the town's mysteries including a boy who claims to be from the moon and a rabbit creature in an alley. However, as the Soul Fire festival approaches, a creepy corporation starts to bulldoze the nearby forests. August Moon is written and drawn by Diana Thung and will be released by Top Shelf in October.
