In The Hypo, a debut graphic novel by Noah Van Sciver, we follow a young Abraham Lincoln as he arrives in Springfield, IL to practice law. While living with a womanizing bachelor, young Lincoln builds relationships with the town's lawyers and politicians and becomes engaged to a woman from a high-society Kentucky family. However, the book is focused on what historians have described as his struggles with depression and a nervous breakdown, conditions that Lincoln refers to as "the hypo." The Hypo will be released by Fantagraphics in August.
