Just Roll With It, a debut graphic novel by writer Lee Durfey-Lavoie and artist Veronica Agarwal, is the charming story of a grade-school girl who is beginning to deal with anxiety and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and the ways these mental health issues can impact everyday life, even for children. Maggie has just started middle school and wants to make friends and do well in school but she’s worried about, well, almost everything. She loves to play a popular RPG and when she rolls a d20 with the game's dice, which governs success, she's confident. So whenever Maggie is worried, she rolls the dice because she believes if she rolls the right number, nothing can go wrong, right? Except she’s also really worried about what will happen if she rolls the wrong number. Maggie’s parents are starting to worry also. They’re worried she’s become dependent on rolling that dice just to get through the day. In this 6-page excerpt we meet Maggie and her new friend Clara. Just Roll With It by Lee Durfey-Lavoie and Veronica Agarwal will be published this month by Random House Graphic.
