Written and drawn by O’Reilly (with characters created by Spike Trotman), The Poorcraft Cookbook, the third volume of Iron Circus Comics’ popular crowdfunded graphic nonfiction series on household frugality and ingenuity, once again brings together the super-sage Penny, her dog Nickel, and comically uninformed Milli, this time offering thoughtful information on food shopping and cooking, with recipes for healthy low-cost meat, vegetarian, and vegan meals. There’s also information on baking, coffee and tea, and cocktails. In this five-page excerpt Penny drops by Milli’s house with a lot of enthusiasm and a strategic how-to plan (complete with a map of likely and unexpected places to shop) to fill the kitchen with healthy, ethically sourced food. The Poorcraft Cookbook by Nero Villagallos O’Reilly will be published by Iron Circus Comics in March.
