Today, The Bob Edwards Show celebrates the 50th anniversary of Jack Kerouac's novel On the Road with two guests:

New York Times reporter John Leland, author of Why Kerouac Matters: The Lessons of On the Road (They're Not What You Think) (Viking, $23.95). PW found that “Leland's insights provide new layers of significance even for those familiar with the novel.”

Joyce Johnson, author of Minor Characters: A Beat Memoir (Penguin, $19.95), which chronicles the 1950s and her relationship with Kerouac and other Beats.

Authors on The Leonard Lopate Show:

Pattie Boyd, author of Wonderful Tonight: George Harrison, Eric Clapton, and Me (Harmony, $25.95; RH Audio abridged CD, $19.95). Boyd was married first to Harrison and later to Clapton.

Editor Mark Jude Poirier and contributors Victor D. Lavalle and A.M. Holmes recalled The Worst Years of Your Life: Stories for the Geeked-Out, Angst-Ridden, Lust-Addled, and Deeply Misunderstood Adolescent in All of Us (S&S, $15), a fiction anthology. PW’s review had this to say: “For adult readers, this rich, candid collection is bound to stir memories of their own growing pains, and more than a few words of thanks that they're in the past; for those in the thick of it, these stories will, if nothing else, take a little of the sting out of teenage loneliness and confusion.”

Tonight, insult comic Don Rickles visits Charlie Rose to promote Rickles' Book: A Memoir (S&S, $24), which PW referred to as “a feel-good memoir that's loaded with photos and sentiment. Those looking for a sardonic autobiography will be disappointed; Rickles accentuates the positive.”

Tavis Smiley chats with Alek Wek, whose book is Alek: From Sudanese Refugee to International Supermodel (Amistad, $24.99).
