PWxyz, the parent company of Publishers Weekly, has named Kat Meyer to the newly created position of director, events and community engagement. Reporting to Publishers Weekly publisher Cevin Bryerman, Meyer will work with the digital, social media, sales and marketing teams to manage and expand the magazine’s events, which currently range from weekly podcasts to sponsored webcasts to live events and discussion series.

“Kat is an accomplished media professional with extensive experience in envisioning and creating brand-centered events,” said George Slowik, Jr., PWxyz president and CEO. “She will also contribute to our ongoing digital expansion and joint ventures.”

Meyer is the former conference chair for O’Reilly Media’s Tools of Change and the Frankfurt Book Fair’s CONTEC Frankfurt. As a media consultant focused on community development and events management, she has also worked with the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, Books in Browsers, Sourcebooks, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, NetGalley, Communication Skill Builders, the University of Arizona Press and Rio Nuevo Publishers.

“The passion that George, Cevin and the entire PWxyz staff have demonstrated for the publishing community is inspiring,” said Meyer. “Publishers Weekly is committed to both editorial excellence and embracing innovation as it fosters new audiences for its digital, print and attendance-driven initiatives. I cannot wait to come aboard and be a part of that mission.”
