The Washington Independent Review of Books has marked its first anniversary. During its first year, more than 400 book reviews from over 100 different publishers were posted. The Website, which has a staff of 18 volunteers and nearly 40 editors, received 16,000 page views per month, with almost 40,000 unique visitors. In addition to regular features like podcasts and author Q&As, the Website has a periodic poetry feature by Grace Cavallieri, and a literary calendar for the Washington D.C. area. Said David O. Stewart, president of The Independent: “This is a true labor of love for all of us. Since none of us, including our reviewers, is getting paid. We all believe that the most important feelings and insights are shared through books."
