In the first week of 2013, four books debuted in the top 20 bestsellers, according to Nielsen BookScan, which now tracks sales at Wal-Mart.

The top debut was Dean Koontz's Odd Interlude, which sold 21,000 copies, good enough to place it #5 overall, behind only The Third Wheel, Proof of Heaven, Fifty Shades of Grey, and Big Sky River by Linda Miller. The other debut books were W. E. B. Griffin's Empire and Honor (#16), Steve Berry's The Columbus Affair (#14), and Shred by Ian K. Smith, which has been the hot dieting book since it published from St. Martin's. Shred has been back ordered seven to 12 days on Amazon.
