Bloomberg cut jobs in its news operation Monday as it restructures editorial coverage teams. Many of the cuts came from the arts and culture divisions, including book editor Laurie Muchnick.

Muchnick, who currently serves as president of the National Book Critics Circle, tweeted Monday afternoon about being laid off. "Not sure how to put this so here goes: Bloomberg is cutting arts coverage, including books, so today was my last day there." Bloomberg News said it appointed executive editor Manuela Hoelterhoff to oversee new book projects.

Bloomberg has not confirmed the number of total layoffs, but the Wall Street Journal reported that roughly 50 positions, of 2,400 in the news and media departments, were eliminated.
