Kensington Publishing has acquired the e-book house, Lyrical Press. Lyrical, which was founded in 2007, and specializes in contemporary, paranormal and erotic romance; thrillers; and science fiction. Through the deal, Lyrical retains its name and will continue publishing as a digital first imprint at Kensington. Lyrical founder Renee Rocco will become managing director of the imprint, while Adam Zacharius, Kensington director of special projects and alternative media, will oversee it.

CEO of Kensington, Steven Zacharius, said he was drawn to Lyrical because it allowed Kensington to have "a digital imprint that works efficiently like a small independent press." He continued: "With Renee Rocco’s cutting-edge expertise in running a small independent press and Kensington's team of talented professionals, we look forward to building new and existing authors while expanding the titles published under the Lyrical Press imprint."

Through the deal, Kensington acquires the roughly 250 titles on Lyrical's backlist, which run the gamut from YA to genre fiction. Kensginton will begin acquiring titles for the imprint immediately, with all Lyrical Press e-book set to remain DRM-free, and titles stretching beyond 60,000 words to be available as POD editions.
