Penguin Random House Canada has confirmed that distribution for Penguin Canada books will be moving from the Pearson warehouse in Newmarket, Ont. to warehouse facilities in Westminster, Maryland and Crawfordsville, Indiana, from which Random House of Canada’s books are distributed.

The changed is expected to take effect in early February 2015.

Both Penguin Random House Canada and Pearson Canada issued statements saying that they regret that the change will result in “some job loss” for employees at the Newmarket facility.

“We will do all we can to support our employees during this transition,” the statement from Pearson promised and was echoed in the statement from Penguin Random House Canada.

Brandon Pinette, senior public affairs manager at Pearson North America, said he could not provide any further information about the job loss at this time.

In a previous interview with PW, Penguin Canada president and publisher Nicole Winstanley explain that Penguin Canada has “great relationships with the people at Pearson, but Random House is a trade publisher and therefore we’re streamlining trade systems,” she said.
