Rebecca Smart, managing director at Ebury Publishing in the U.K., has been named managing director of DK. Smart will take over the position in January and join the DK executive board.

Smart has been managing director at Ebury, a nonfiction imprint at Penguin Random House U.K., for the last four years. (DK is also owned by PRH). She has been responsible for launching new imprints at the company, overseeing digital and online projects and developing publishing strategies. In addition, Smart has worked with authors in the lifestyle, business and personal development categories at the nonfiction house.

Before joining Ebury, Smart was managing director of Osprey Publishing where she is credited with growing that house through the acquisition of publishing companies that specialized in a variety of nonfiction genres.

DK CEO Ian Hudson said Smart will “play a key role in shaping our future strategy,” and praised “her mix of strategic leadership and commercial experience.”
