Henry Holt is laying off the entire staff of its Metropolitan Books imprint, including Sara Bershtel, who has served as publisher since 2008. The imprint had three other employees, one of whom has been offered another role at Holt.

In a brief announcement, Holt said Bershtel and the rest of the Metropolitan staff will be leaving the company, with Bershtel’s departure set for October 14. Founded in 1997, the imprint, which is part of Macmillan Publishers, has been home to numerous critically acclaimed and commercially successful authors, among them Noam Chomsky, Barbara Ehrenreich, Susan Faludi, Thomas Frank, Atul Gawande, Naomi Klein, Joe Sacco, Edward Snowden, and Elizabeth Warren.

Amy Einhorn, president and publisher of Holt, said more information about the future of Metropolitan Books will be announced soon.
