The Religious Booksellers Trade Exhibit and BookExpo were also occasions for the presentation of awards to religion/spirituality publishers.

At RBTE, the first annual Association of Catholic Publishers Excellence in Publishing Awards were bestowed. Book of the Year, and winner in the General Interest category, was All Is Grace: A Biography of Dorothy Day by Jim Forest (Orbis). Among other winners were, in Prayer and Spirituality, The Mass in Scripture by Stephen Binz (Our Sunday Visitor); in Inspirational, The Other Side of Chaos: Breaking Through When Life is Breaking Down by Margaret Silf (Loyola); and in Scripture, The Bible and Science: Longing for God in a Science-Dominated World by Vincent Smiles (Liturgical Press).

The audiobook of Great American Catholic Eulogies, compiled and with introductions by Carol DeChant (ACTA Publications), was awarded first place in the Audio category of the Independent Book Publishers Association’s Benjamin Franklin Awards presented during BEA. Sufism and the Way of Blame (Quest Books) won first place in the Religion book category.

The Audie Awards of the Audio Publishers Association were presented at the annual Audies Gala at BEA. The awards recognized the year’s best in audio books and spoken word. Oasis Audio took top honors for Courageous in the Faith-Based Fiction category and for The Barefoot Executive in the business/educational category. Wonder of Your Love (ChristianAudio) was recognized for Distinguished Production. Zondervan’s The Story, NIV Bible won the top prize in the Inspirational/Faith-Based Non-Fiction category. This is the sixth Audie Award Zondervan has earned since 2007, when it took the top honor, Audio Book of the Year, for Inspired By…The Bible Experience.

The Nautilus Awards for Better Books for a Better World also were announced at BEA. God Is Not a Christian by Desmond Tutu (HarperOne) won a Gold Award in the Religion category. Among the winners of Silver Awards were: in Eastern Religion, The Path of the Yoga Sutra (Sounds True); in Religion-Other, Transcendence (Tarcher); and in Religion-Western, The Swedenborg Sampler (Swedenborg Foundation Press) and A Public Faith (Baker/Brazos).
