In the last issue we noted the demise of the Cokesbury chain’s bricks-and-mortar stores, but this time we can report that Family Christian Stores, the largest Christian chain, has received a cash infusion from new investors and is going forward under new owners. It’s sad when bookstores close, and heartening when they don’t. In this e-age, those of us who still love the physical book believe there’s a place for bricks and mortar, as places to meet other book people, to be steered to books by knowledgeable staff, and just to wander the aisles inhaling the scents of paper and ink. May it always be so.
