Now it begins: Trade show season is here for religion publishers and retailers. First there’s BEA in New York next week, still important for the religion houses that go, though there are fewer than in past years. Some now take a pass in favor of religion specialty shows, and those overlap or follow close behind this summer. The Religious Booksellers Trade Exhibit (for the liturgical Christian market) meets May 28-30 in St. Charles, Ill., and with BEA changing its dates industry folks must choose between the two or do both. Then later in June (23-26) comes the International Christian Retail Show in St. Louis, THE show for evangelical publishers and booksellers. Finally, more religion houses are going after the library market, and many will be at ALA (June 27-July 2 in Chicago). By late summer all of us will have earned a rest.
