Southern Baptist Theological Seminary Press has released God and the Gay Christian? A Response to Matthew Vines (April 22), the first for SBTSP’s new CONVERSANT e-book imprint. The essay collection refutes what R. Albert Mohler Jr., president of the seminary and editor of the volume, calls the “exceedingly dangerous” arguments of Matthew Vines’ God and the Gay Christian: The Biblical Case in Support of Same-Sex Relationships (Convergent), which also released April 22. “Not every book deserves a response, but some books appear at a time and context in which response is absolutely necessary,” Mohler stated in Southern Seminary News. In the 100-page critique, Mohler and other contributors, who are faculty of the seminary and its undergraduate school, decry Vines’ assertion that same-sex relationships are not antithetical to a “high view” of scripture. Mohler also calls it “distressing” that Vines’ book was published by an imprint of WaterBrook Multnomah, the evangelical Christian publishing division of Random House. God and the Gay Christian? A Response to Matthew Vines is available as a free PDF download and soon on the Kindle, Nook, and iBook platforms.
