Gena Knox Media, Wind Publications Step Up
The Southern Independent Booksellers Association (SIBA) announced its 2011 Book Award winners on Independence Day (naturally), honoring two independent Southern presses as well: Wind Publications, which published poetry winner A House of Branches by Janisse Ray, and self-publishing enterprise Gena Knox Media, whose Southern My Way won in the "cooking" category.

The Potter In Print Count
With Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 set to be released in theaters next Thursday, Scholastic is expecting a bump in sales for the hugely popular series. In the U.S., the seven Potter books have 150 million copies in print with the first book, Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone, the leader at 30 million copies.

If Minnesota's state government shutdown, going into its second week, lasts much longer, there will be serious consequences for the Minnesota Historical Society Press, housed at the Minnesota History Center in St. Paul.

Vook to Open New Office in New York
The mixed media company Vook is consolidating its operations into a new office in New York City. Since its launch in 2009, Vook has had space in both New York and Emeryville, Calif., but beginning July 18 the company will bring all employees to a new office on West 25th St. in Chelsea.

After more a than week of personal appearances from Eva Gabrielsson in support of her much anticipated memoir, There are Things I Want You To Know About Stieg Larsson and Me, Seven Stories Press publisher Dan Simon reports that the book has more than 43,000 copies in print and has landed on the National Indiebound Bestseller List and on several regional lists.
