Canadian Linked Stories Collection Sells in U.S.

Denise Bukowski of Canada's The Bukowski Agency sold The Time I Loved You by Carrianne K.Y. Leung to Liveright/Norton for U.S. publication in winter 2019. The book was published by HarperCollins Canada this month. Leung is the author of The Wondrous Woo, and this new book is a collection of linked stories about a suburban subdivision where tragedies keep on occurring.

Sourcebooks Acquires Chinese Children's Series

Ahead of the Bologna Book Fair (which began March 26), Sourcebooks acquired world English and North American Spanish rights to the Red Kangaroo series by Chris Ferrie, from China Children's Press and Publication Group (CCPPG), who control all rights to the series. The Red Kangaroo Physical Quiz series explains principles of mathematics/physics to 4-8-year-olds, utilizing several illustrations. The Red Kangaroo is a recurring character that has been used in several CCPPG series. Sourcebooks will start publishing 10 books in the series starting in spring 2019. Since May 2017, Sourcebooks has published several books in Ferrie's Baby University series, and the company will continue publishing books in this series in 2018 and 2019.

Finnish Novel Sells in Turkey; Shortlisted for Finnish Literary Export Prize

Seventh Spring by Tiina Laitila Kalvemark, published by Finnish publisher WSOY in 2017, has sold to Turkish publisher Yeni Insan Yayinevi. The book follows Susanne and Padma, the woman in India who will be the surrogate mother for Susanne's baby. Bonniers Rights Finland controls all rights to the novel, which was shortlisted for the 2018 Finnish Literary Export Prize.

Catalan Novel to Be Published in Spanish

The Catflap by Muriel Villanueva, a novel that was originally published in Catalan in 2012 by Ara Llibres, will be published by Navona in Spanish, in Spain only, next month. The book's rights are controlled by International Editors, who compare it to the work of Japanese author Haruki Murakami. It's about a woman who inherits two symmetrical apartments in Barcelona and her journey of identity.
