MARKETING MANAGER. The University of Nebraska Press seeks a senior marketing professional who is highly motivated, creative, a strategic thinker, and a collegial and collaborative team member to oversee all aspects of book marketing and sales. Supervising a staff of seven (plus interns, student workers, and freelancers), the position is responsible for: overseeing national and other house accounts; supervising independent sales reps and leading semiannual sales conferences; overseeing advertising, author events, electronic marketing, production of seasonal catalogs, and organization of UNP’s attendance at conferences and exhibits. The Marketing Manager is also responsible for managing promotional and publicity efforts, including traditional and social media; and has various sales and customer service responsibilities. This person is also responsible for making and maintaining annual department budgets. The marketing manager will work with authors, acquiring editors, and other staff at the Press to determine the right strategy, pricing, and print run for each book, and will develop individual marketing plans for the 150+ books published per year. The marketing manager will also work with distribution clients and collaborative publishing partners on all aspects of sales and marketing, analyze sales and sales trends to help make press-wide strategic decisions, and liaise with third-party fulfillment and warehouse vendors. The marketing manager is a member of the senior Leadership Team and reports directly to the Director of the Press.
A bachelor's degree in a field relevant to publishing or marketing plus three years of experience in publishing or marketing are required. Exceptional written/verbal communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills is essential. Must have knowledge of the current marketplace for book sales, including web based-sales and PR initiatives; and knowledge of book industry contracts, discounts, fulfillment, and distribution agreements. Five years of experience in publishing or marketing preferred.
