Author’s Adult Literacy Initiative Grows
Author DC Gomez’s initiative to promote adult literacy by giving away 1 million free copies of her novel Death’s Intern to readers across the country has been joined by Jade Dee and Wilnona Marie, who are contributing 1,000 free copies of their motivational poetry books. Since April, Gomez has given away over 8,700 copies of Death’s Intern through her website. The poets, together known as the And I Thought Ladies, are giving away books through their website as well as at in-person book fairs and industry events, including the upcoming ALA conference.
The initiative, titled “1 Million & One Night Stands,” aims to build better reading habits among adults, Marie said. “Knowledge is power and books are a great way to walk a mile in another's shoes,” Marie continued. “[We] have taken it upon [ourselves] to conquer the empathy issue by increasing a desire to read.”
