2021 NEA Literary Fellowships Total to $1.2 Million

The National Endowment for the Arts has announced its first round of recommended awards for fiscal year 2021, totaling to $27,562,040. Of that number, $1.2 million will go to creative writers and translators as part of this fiscal year's Literature Fellowships program. Those fellowships include 35 Creative Writing Fellowships of $25,000 each, which this year will benefit poets and are to be used to help the recipients set aside time for writing, research, travel, and general career advancement; recipients include Leila Chatti, Natalie Eilbert, Diana Khoi Nguyen, Joy Priest, Vanessa Angélica Villarreal, and Marcus Wicker. $325,000 in fellowships will be awarded to 24 translators to translate works from 16 languages and 19 countries into English. In addition, the Grants for Arts Projects awards will also benefit literary arts institutions.
