NBCC Launches New Prize for Translated Literature

The National Book Critics Circle has announced the launch of the Gregg Barrios Book in Translation Prize. Starting with the 2022 publishing year, the inaugural Gregg Barrios Book in Translation Prize will honor the best book of any genre translated into English and published in the United States. New translations of previously translated books will be considered.

Both NBCC board and regular members will serve as judges for the Gregg Barrios Book in Translation Prize. The winner of the new prize will be announced in a March ceremony along with other NBCC prize winners. The prize will be awarded to both the author and translator.

The prize is named after board member Gregg Barrios, a Latino poet, playwright, and book critic who passed away in August at age 80. Barrios joined the board of the National Book Critics Circle in 2010.
