PRH Raises Starting Salaries to $48,000

Penguin Random House will raise starting salaries to $48,000, effective April 3. In a statement, PRH said that the increase “will apply to incoming and existing employees in most non-warehouse locations.”

PRH is the latest of the Big Five to announce increased starting salaries. In February, Hachette Book Group and Macmillan increased their starting salaries to $47,500 (from $45,000 and $42,000, respectively).

Also in February, following a three-month strike by unionized employees, HarperCollins agreed to raise its minimum salary from $47,500 to $48,000 effective January 2024, and raise it to $50,000 in January 2025.

Simon & Schuster's base salary rate is $47,500 for employees working 35-hour workweeks, and $50,000 for those working 40-hour workweeks.
