Univ. Toronto Press, Rapido Books Partner on POD
University of Toronto Press and Rapido Books, a Canadian print-on-demand and short-run printing company, have partnered on a made-in-Canada print-on-demand solution for publishers.
Under the program, Canadian publishers will have access to a domestic print-on-demand service, with Rapido Books printing titles in Montreal and shipping them to UTP in Toronto for national distribution.
This domestic process will, the companies said, “reduce the publishing industry’s carbon footprint in Canada” by “keeping the printing and distribution for the Canadian market local,” thus “drastically reduce the carbon footprint required to get books into the hands of Canadian readers,” and eliminating “the waste of unsold books” In addition, the companies said, “this solution increases access to niche titles that may not generate enough general demand for a large run of books.”
