ITP, Donnelley Set Up Custom Publishing PlanInternational Thomson Publishing (ITP) and R.R. Donnelley &Sons have announced the establishment of a digital archiving and custom publishing system with online access for ITP's educational customers.

According to Thomson officials, the archive will contain all the print and image products developed by Thomson, and will allow professors to build books online, chapter by chapter. These can be automatically repaginated and then printed on IBM InfoPrint and Xerox DocuTech machines at Donnelley's Digital Services Center in Allentown, Pa.

Thomson CEO Robert Christie commented, "The R.R. Donnelley system meets our criteria of simplicity, accessibility, searchability, completeness and cost-effectiveness, and accelerates our transition to a multimedia and online provider of total teaching and learning solutions."

A Donnelley official said that the system, an extension of the Donnelley Digital Archive technology, uses standard file formats, and thus could be applied to any publishers' archives and printed on any printing system.
