Publink.net, a new online site that provides information on authors and titles, has reconfigured its payment model, noting that its new subscription program will be easier to use and will lower the cost to publishers who join the program.

PubLink.net (www.pubLink.net) was launched by BookSite, a network of online independent bookstores, and Publishers Weekly to offer a wide variety of book information to consumers, and online marketing and promotional opportunities for publishers. The site d s not sell books; instead, it points consumers to various online retailers.

Jamie Hill, director of PubLink.net, said, "Publishers wanted a user-friendly way to enter book promotional data and to lower costs." The PubLink.net site will now charge $250 for a publisher subscription. Publishers are given password-protected logons that allows them to correct, add to or enhance their listings by providing hyperlinks to graphics, author content or online promotional material. Hill explained that while PubLink.net inputs comprehensive title information from a wide variety of publishers (supplied by Ingram), a publisher must subscribe to Publink.net in order to customize or hyperlink title listings to additional online information. Publishers will also be charged $10 for each new title added after November 1.

Hill told PW that PubLink.net has about 400 subscribers. He also noted that the program offers a group subscription rate to small publishers.
