AtRandom, which was originally established about one year ago as an imprint for new e-books by the Random House Trade Group (News, Aug. 7, 2000), is being phased out. The imprint went through a transition earlier this year when it abandoned its mandate of publishing short, original e-books in favor of doing full-length works simultaneously in trade paperback and e-book formats. But with little demand for e-books, the decision was made to shift the print books out of AtRandom to the Random House Trade Paperback and Villard imprints. "We think the books will fare better if they are part of an existing brand," said Tom Perry, director of publicity for Random adult books. In most cases, e-book editions will continue to be released along with the print books. Mary Bahr, who was editorial director of AtRandom, will continue in her other role as director of new business development for the trade group.
