Two separate editors at Farrar, Straus & Giroux signed books by Latin authors recently from the same New York agent, Thomas Colchie. John Glusman's buy was of U.S. and Canadian rights to Antipodes, a prize-winning selection of stories by Mexican author Ignacio Padilla, described as ironic sketches of British colonial nostalgia and ruin; Colchie was acting for the author's Barcelona agent, Antonia Kerrigan. The other editor, Ayesha Pande, bought a massive (700-plus pages) and massively titled epic of jazz, race and war in the past three decades by Puerto Rico's Edgardo Vega Yunque. It's called No Matter How Much You Promise to Cook or Pay the Rent You Blew It Cauze Bill Bailey Ain't Never Comin' Home Again. The author has previously been published by Arté Publico, and Pande took world rights in this one.
