Stars and Stripes Forever Bookstore browsers will find a trio of titles on children's shelves this fall that celebrate the U.S. of A. Just out from HarperCollins is God Bless America, which presents Irving Berlin's lyrics to this song and art by Lynn Munsinger. The book is packaged with a CD featuring Barbra Streisand singing this paean to our country. A portion of the publisher's proceeds will be donated to the God Bless America fund to benefit America's youth.
The Pledge of Allegiance takes the spotlight in a Candlewick picture book written by Bill Martin Jr. and Michael Sampson and illustrated by Caldecott Honor artist Chris Raschka. I Pledge Allegiance reproduces the words to this 1892 patriotic pledge and explains its meaning.
Also focusing on a document integral to American history is a new Scholastic title, The Declaration of Independence, inscribed and illustrated by 86-year-old first-timer Sam Fink. Drawings and captions that interpret the declaration accompany the hand-lettered text.
