Karen Hughes, a former counselor to President Bush who made news when she decided to quit Washington and go home to Texas to be with her family—but is still a key presidential adviser—has signed to write a book for Viking. Executive editor Pam Dorman bought her proposal for world rights from D.C. agent Bob Barnett at Williams & Connolly, and aims to publish in 2004. Hughes will discuss her special relationship with the White House, her views on Washington life, her reasons for going home and her concerns about America's image abroad.
