In a deal that will allow the Association of American Publishers to utilize technology it helped to develop, the AAP has reached an agreement with Content Directions to register Digital Object Identifiers for all its published materials.

Ed McCoyd, director of digital policy at AAP, said, "We are excited to be working with CD and using DOIs to help people discover our documents and lead Internet users to a multitude of resources."

The DOI is a persistent digital copyright identification that can also be used to digitally offer information and links to whatever content or services the copyright owner chooses. The development of the DOI was initiated by the AAP in 1995; Content Directions has since taken over as official administrator and registration agency.
