The author of that bible of male-female miscommunication, You Just Don't Understand, Deborah Tannen, has spent much of the last three years looking into another arena where people often talk past each other: the relationships between mothers and their grown-up daughters. Random editor Lee Boudreaux has picked up her untitled book on that subject, based on countless real-life conversations between those natural adversaries, and hopes to publish in time for—what else?—Mother's Day in 2005. She got North American rights from agent Suzanne Gluck at William Morris.
