Through the first quarter of 2008, sales fell in six publishing segments, while increasing at seven, according to AAP's monthly sales estimates. Sales were off nearly 18% in the period at the 17 companies that report in the adult hardcover segment, but rose 23.1% at the 18 publishers reporting in the trade paperback category. Sales of e-books had a healthy gain, up 35.7%, to a still very modest $10.4 million for the 14 publishers who reported sales in the segment. Within the elhi segment, sales of supplementary materials fell 12.4% in the quarter.
