Cohen in the Booth at Macmillan

Macmillan Audio welcomed television personality Andy Cohen to the studio last month to record his upcoming memoir, The Andy Cohen Diaries, due out November 11. Cohen is Bravo’s executive v-p of development and talent and is responsible for overseeing the production of hit shows such as Top Chef and The Real Housewives. In addition, Cohen is the host and executive producer of Watch What Happens Live, Bravo’s late-night interactive talk show, and has won an Emmy and two Peabody awards for his work. Cohen also the narrated the audio edition of his previous book, Most Talkative, which was nominated for an Audie Award in 2013 in the Narration by the Author category.

Penguin Audio Gets Musical

Herbie Hancock read his memoir Possibilities for Penguin Audio. The publisher says that in the book, which goes on sale October 23, the celebrated musician reflects on his long career, “from his beginnings as a child prodigy to his work in Miles Davis’s second great quintet; from his innovations as the leader of his own groundbreaking sextet to his collaborations with everyone from Wayne Shorter to Joni Mitchell and Stevie Wonder.”

S&S Casts Hurt

At Simon & Schuster Audio, Academy Award–winning actor William Hurt will read Consumed, the debut novel by filmmaker David Cronenberg, due out September 30. The book follows the story of two journalists whose “entanglement in a French philosopher’s death becomes a surreal journey into global conspiracy,” S&S reports. Cronenberg’s feature films include Crash, The Fly, and Videodrome. His most recent film, Cosmopolis, which was an adaptation of Don DeLillo’s 2003 novel, stars Robert Pattinson. Hurt won the 1986 Oscar for his performance in Kiss of the Spider Woman.

Tantor Shows ‘Another Side’ of Dylan

Jacob Maymudes was in the studio last month recording Another Side of Bob Dylan, the book he wrote using the recordings of his father, the late Victor Maymudes, who was Dylan’s tour manager, personal friend, and traveling companion from the 1960s through the late 1990s. On Jan. 26, 2001, after recording more than 24 hours of taped memories in preparation for writing this book, Maymudes suffered an aneurysm and died. His son wrote the book from his tapes, recounting “landmark” events in the decades Maymudes spent with Dylan, including the musician’s “infamous motorcycle crash, his meeting with the Beatles during their first U.S. tour, his marriage to Sara Lownds, as well as his romances with Joan Baez and others,” Tantor says. The audiobook goes on sale September 9 (St. Martin’s Press will release the hardcover the same day).

Ashley Talks Williams for Brilliance

Tony Award–winning Actress Elizabeth Ashley recorded Tennessee Williams: Mad Pilgrimage of the Flesh for Brilliance by John Lahr, former senior drama critic for the New Yorker. The book, on sale September 22, “provides intimate knowledge into the life and mind of the brilliant dramatist.” Ashley was a close friend to Williams, appearing in 14 of his plays, including the iconic 1974 Broadway production of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

Santana Narrates ‘Universal Tone’ for Hachette

Legendary guitarist Carlos Santana was in Hachette’s recording studio last month reading his memoir, Universal Tone: Bringing My Story to Light. The audiobook, which goes on sale November 4, is, according to Hachette, a “profoundly inspiring tale of divine inspiration and musical fearlessness that does not balk at finding the humor in the world of high-flying fame.”
