Jesse’s Girl

The movie adaptation of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, a 2012 YA novel by first-time author Jesse Andrews, premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, nabbing a Grand Jury Prize and an Audience Award; Andrews also wrote the screenplay. In advance of the film’s June 12 release, a revised paperback edition of the book has been building up steam (see graph). This week, it’s at #8 in Children’s Frontlist Fiction, with 6,849 print units sold. A movie tie-in version will pub May 26.

Another YA adaptation of note is John Green’s Paper Towns, hitting theaters July 24. The tie-in edition debuts at #2 in Children’s Frontlist Fiction, with 12K print units sold. And the 2011 trade paper edition sold more than twice that this week and is the #3 book overall.

In the Pink

Don’t put those crayons away just yet: coloring books debut on three of our lists this week. Johanna Basford’s Secret Garden (2013), which is widely credited with popularizing the trend among adults, was in high demand and hard to find recently. After selling just 159 units last week, this week it’s at #10 on our Children’s Picture Book list, with 6,247 units sold.

The newly released Color Therapy, by Cindy Wilde, Laura-Kate Chapman, and Richard Merritt, lands at #23 on our Hardcover Nonfiction list, with 4,544 units sold.

And the Trade Paperback list has two coloring book debuts: Stress Relieving Patterns (April), at #15 with 5,237 units, and Color Me Calm, by Lacy Mucklow, illus. by Angela Porter (2014), at #25 with 3,697 units sold.
